It sucks to grieve a person and a life that was never real.

I always explain in a metaphorical sense. I truly loved my husband and intended to be married to him for life. And then, all of a sudden, a stranger wearing my husband’s face, walked into our house, and 💀 my husband, right in front of me.

Just realized this is kind of what religious deconstruction felt like.

From my therapist: you were a different person when you believed him. You would see through it if you went back now, but you didn’t know not to believe him then. You were giving him the benefit of the goodness in you, but we only can see after that they didn’t deserve that benefit. So we were viewing it with what we knew at the time

You believed in the potential that was there..he didn’t fool you babe, he chose to not be who he could have been… you have nothing to forgive yourself for. I’m proud of you 🫶🏾

oh it’s very wicked. The second round of anger is diabolical when it’s not watered down by sad.

I’m 10 years divorced from a 30 year relationship and this is the first time someone said what my brain felt. I didn’t have the words. How did I not see it? I trusted him so much. With everything in me. It was all a lie? How? I still don’t understand really.

I’ve been divorced for almost 5 years, and I still have memories of random events and wonder if they were real or if he was just pretending at that moment.

It’s worse when you see it dawning on your kids’ face about the person you chose for their dad. Could I have known how cruel that person would become even to the point of hurting them to get back at me? No. Do I still blame myself? Yes.

After discovering the betrayal, i thought he looks like my husband but someone else took over his body and it’s not the person I was married to for 20 years anymore. A totally different identity has taken over

looking at someone you've built a life around and realising it was founded on either their own deceit or your own delusion..it's a unique pain.

I saw my ex husband for the first time in 4 years since our divorce and oh.my.goodness-the veil is broken. He looked horrible from 4 more years of heavy drinking (also has an elderly gf who owns a bar). When he noticed me his body language completely changed as if he was struck my a bolt of guilt. I had a mini panic attack but my now boyfriend was so supportive and loving. I always wondered if karma would find him…I got my confirmation today. She has his number.. remember that!

This is so true. I’m realizing that in the 29 years I was married he was really good at placating. He was such a coward and disconnected from his own emotions lying was his comfort zone.
