The roots don't lie 😍 LECA stands for lightweight expanded clay aggregate and he's right, it IS a great soil amendment. But if you've followed me and other aroid growers for a while, you know many of us LOVE growing plants "semi-hydro" in just LECA. As a standalone substrate, LECA does an excellent job of storing and delivering consistent moisture and nutrients to roots. It also has excellent structure for airflow, doesn't break down over time and is reusable. There are two important rules for growing plants in LECA: 1. Consistently add quality hydroponic-compatible nutrients. LECA is inorganic and doesn't offer any nutrients on its own. 2. Always keep the LECA hydrated via wick and or reservoir. If LECA dries out it can actually adhere to and withdraw moisture from the roots. Xx
