ACAS states that rest breaks should be uninterrupted and taken away from the work area. NHS Employers guidance recognizes the benefits of a short power nap during an authorized break to help manage fatigue. Nurses are putting in long shifts, dealing with incredibly sick patients, emergencies, medications, distress, and constant responsibility. So, just to clarify, I’m not suggesting nurses should sleep on the job. I’m saying if you’ve been given an unpaid rest break, you should be allowed to REST properly.
