@waa_sere: In the coming days, I will be talking about an experiment that was conducted in Ilé Ifẹ̀ in 1970. It lasted six years. Teaching in our indigenous languages has been done before and the results are well recorded. Wait for it. A ti ṣere. Indeed have we prospered. Àṣẹ. #waasere #atisere #indigenousknowledge
If they teach us in Yoruba, most of us will know chemistry, Biology, mathematics and physics better not with English and words u don’t understand . China , Japan do these

I support the name of indigenous language as a medium of instructions. I'm teaching in public school and most kids coming from public primary can't read and write in English.

I can’t forget when my friend mother who was a journalist followed me to school to fight the teacher that beat me for speaking vernacular 😭she will never allow us to speak English at home and I’m passing it to my children. I studied English in uni and for better understanding, I always translate it to Yoruba for better understanding. I remember when I was asked about ellipsis and I asked if I can explain better in Yoruba and the lecturer agreed and I gave an in-depth explanation.Yoruba dun lede !!!!!

I understand you tbh, but Nigeria has 500+ languages. We need a single language to be able to communicate with 200m+ people. I believe it is the parents’ responsibility to teach their child their local dialect, then English will be taught in schools.

If you want to school in some schools in china, Germany or Japan, they would make you take a one year class on their language before you continue your studies. If a child is in Yoruba land, they should learn Yoruba then take their classes, if they are in Hausa or Igbo land, they should learn the language then take their classes. This has a better advantage as it makes the child multilingual in their own country. English taught classes should be an option also. We need to put on our thinking caps as Africans and make some efforts to librate ourselves. Can we write letters together petitioned by interested parties to try to over turn this?

Nigeria is multilingual. We can’t use indigenous languages to teach in schools. I don’t support it getting banned, instead, I think it should be incorporated into their teaching and not made the primary teaching language. English should remain the primary language and indigenous languages should be used as secondary languages. We have almost 500 indigenous languages in Nigeria and you want indigenous languages to be the primary language in schools? It can’t work to be honest. Nigeria is not like most countries with only one or two languages, it just can’t work here.

With this...we now see "one Nigeria" is a myth. How many teachers do you want to have that can speak languages of all those mixed in one class?

making our language "vernacular" is so much horrible
imagine asking a kid "IYA Ẹ NKỌ" And he was like bro don't say that to me again, you and my mom are not age mate, and I was like, did I disrespect your mom ?
and he said "YES" that instead of me using IYA I could have used MOM
And am chocked
