@iammcpashun: Woman S£ntënced to 14 Years ļmprïsønmënt for Converting a Müzlim to a Chrïztian in Børnø Nïgeria…..A Nation where constitution promises freedom, but justice is now under question! Liyatu Samuel Dawa, a Christian woman in Borno Shared her Chriztian faith with an adult Muzlim woman who reportedly testified that she chose to convert voluntarily. Let us return to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Section 10 states that neither the Federal Government nor any state government shall adopt a state religion. Section 38 guarantees every person freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including the right to change religion and to propagate religious beliefs through teaching and practice. Section 42 also protects citizens against religious discrimination. So, how can a country constitutionally committed to religious freedom allow a case like this to raise such serious questions about the right to believe, change one’s religion and share one’s faith? Is Nigeria becoming a country where constitutional rights exist on paper but become negotiable in practice? The decadence of a nation is not measured only by its collapsing roads, failing hospitals, insecurity, corruption or empty promises from Politicians. Sometimes, the deepest decay begins when citizens lose confidence that the law will protect them equally, regardless of their religion, ethnicity, wealth or political connections.
