@lovinmaltaofficial: More than 16,000 vehicles were stopped by police officers during approximately 720 road checks carried out across Malta and Gozo between June and September 2026. According to figures released by the Malta Police Force, officers issued around 880 traffic contraventions and 104 charges during the four-month period. The inspections were carried out by various police units during both daytime and nighttime hours as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and identify motorists breaking traffic regulations. Police also conducted 98 drug and alcohol tests on drivers suspected of being under the influence, with 16 individuals testing positive for alcohol. Among the most common offences identified were driving without a valid licence or insurance policy, failing to wear a seatbelt and using a mobile phone while driving. Despite the violations recorded, police said the vast majority of drivers stopped during the checks were found to be complying with traffic regulations. The Malta Police Force confirmed that road checks will continue in the coming days and months, with officers maintaining their efforts to reduce risks for all road users. Police also urged motorists to follow traffic regulations and drive responsibly, stressing the importance of protecting both their own lives and those of others on the road. What do you think about these figures?
They stoped me few days ago, during the evening, policemen was polite, requesting for the driving licence, i show them, they made the necessary checks and all was good.
Malta needs more checks like this.
