They are very strict now about pain medications. The only time they willingly gave me pain medication and strong ones at that was after my spinal fusion (rods, screws, plates, and a cage put into my back). Other than that, you won’t get anything until it’s proven that something is seriously wrong. My gallbladder ruptured, I went to the ER, my vitals were through the roof and really worrisome. I have a high pain tolerance, so I wasn’t screaming in pain, but I was clearly struggling and kept telling them how much pain I was in. They refused me any type of pain medication until they got my ultrasound report back. They came into the room, immediately gave me Dilaudid, I said “something must really be wrong for you to be giving me that now” and they said “yeah, you’re being admitted and you’re having emergency surgery. Your gallbladder has ruptured and it was probably at least 24 hours ago.” I’d been sitting in the ER in miserable pain for HOURS at that point with nothing but Tylenol.

Getting pain meds but wanting more of a specific kind and they explained to her they can’t do more.. why would they risk their license for a few mg more? Take something else maybe.

Normally, I'd side with the patient, but this time, they DID treat the pain the best they could and as safely as they could. Never dictate to a doctor, by name, the specific pain med you want, or continue begging for more....most people do not have a tolerance for more, and unfortunately, we have to bare pain to some extent. That's reality. Meds are not always going to take it all away, it's meant to take the edge off.

if they gave her the max amount of pain medication she can't get more. ultrasounds don't take long I have had them done.

Its not emergent. This is chronic and needs to be handled with your outpatient provider. And as a nurse- the way you are going on about the medication and your behavior does stand out. I also had endometriosis so bad I just recently had to have an ovary removed and hysterectomy - yes its painful but you need to follow up outpatient.

Yeah, I went to a pain management specialist and he treated me even worse. You have to endure the pain you learn to live with it.

I feel for doctors when having to navigate patients like this…. Seeking pain meds it’s a red flag for me. Doctors are trained to know what limits and interactions of drugs for patients. I am sure they see this a lot. People coming in looking for pain meds.

This is why I haven’t been to a doctor in over 8 years. I’ll lay in the gutter and die of pain before I ask them for anything again. They know I have bulging disc and nerve pain in my back and legs.💔💔💔

I had a kidney stone that was stuck. The staff treated me like a drug seeker. I screamed in pain for 3 hours. They didn’t give me anything for pain. My husband kept opening the door so the staff could actually hear me screaming. They kept closing the door again and again. After 3 hours of screaming I got a CT scan. The ct staff didn’t even help me get on the ct table even though I was puking from pain. Then the doctor came in & said “I’m sorry I didn’t take your pain seriously, you have a stuck kidney stone”. When I was finally given pain meds I called the dr back and told him “if you put in my chart that I’m a drug seeker then you better amend that” he said “I didn’t put that in your chart” I have PTSD from that. This pisses me off. BTW, look up Chesapeake Regional Medical Center and see all the f-up lawsuits against that hospital.

You ONLY need one image to get an estimate of the cyst. You can get two dimensions of measurement with one image. AND you can measure it AFTER the exam as well.

People who don’t have or experienced endo don’t understand how painful it is… I have had three kids and when I’m in an endo flare up the pain is worse than labor pain… i would take an epidural if it was possible when I’m like that… on top of not feeling good and in soooo much pain, it’s always like we are having to defend ourselves and prove we are in fact so miserable and it puts even more stress and even more turmoil! I’ve had to go on a morphine pump before every 15 min due to the pain … I don’t wish it on anyone but I do sometimes wish doctors or nurses had to feel it even just for an hour so they know how bad it is and how one minute of it feels like an eternity. It’s miserable !! After years and years of suffering I have found that large doses of steroids help the pain a lot during bad flare ups!
