@starurdu: Pakistan's Forgotten Railway Station | Inside the 136-Year-Old Railway Station | Pakistan Khewra Railway Station is a historic British-era railway station located near the famous Khewra Salt Mine in Jhelum District, Punjab, Pakistan. The Chalisa–Khewra railway section opened in August 1887 to transport rock salt and other minerals, while the historic station building dates back to 1890. For generations, the railway helped transport pink salt from Khewra to major destinations, including Karachi and Peshawar. It also supported passengers, mining and industrial activity across the Salt Range. However, railway freight declined as road transportation increased, and passenger services ceased in 2011. Today, Khewra Railway Station is known for its deteriorating platforms, rusting signals, overgrown tracks and neglected colonial-era buildings. In October 2026, Pakistan Railways approached the Punjab Archaeology Department regarding the restoration of the historic station building as a tourist attraction. However, a restoration proposal does not mean that train services have resumed. If you want the world to discover Pakistan's forgotten engineering wonders, subscribe to Star Urdu and like this video.
