@bikers_see_you: Strong crosswinds can move a motorcycle around more than riders expect. The trick isn’t to fight every gust. It’s to understand where the wind changes, stay relaxed, and give yourself enough room to let the bike move without turning that movement into a bigger problem. Here are 5 crosswind mistakes riders need to avoid: 1️⃣ Death-gripping the bars When riders tense up, they can transfer unwanted steering inputs into the motorcycle. Keep your grip relaxed, your elbows loose, and your inputs smooth. 2️⃣ Not expecting the gust after an obstacle Trucks, buildings, trees, and terrain can temporarily block the wind. The moment you leave that shelter, the full crosswind can hit again. 3️⃣ Getting surprised by changing wind Bridges, valleys, mountain gaps, open terrain, and wind shadows can all change how much side force reaches the bike. Don’t let the wind surprise you. Expect the change. 4️⃣ Overcorrecting A gust pushes the bike, you steer too aggressively, then the gust eases and suddenly you’ve moved farther than intended. Use small, controlled corrections instead of chasing every movement. 5️⃣ Not leaving enough lateral space If a gust moves you several feet, where does that put you? Avoid trapping yourself beside vehicles, guardrails, the centerline, or the shoulder. Lane position can give you valuable buffer space. **THE WIND CAN MOVE THE BIKE. DON’T LET IT MOVE YOUR DECISION-MAKING.** Relax your grip. Expect wind shadows. Read the terrain. Correct only as much as needed. Protect your space. DON’T FIGHT THE WIND. MANAGE WHAT IT DOES TO THE BIKE. 👇 What gives you the most trouble in strong wind — open highways, passing trucks, or sudden gusts? 🏍️ Ride Smart.
