5 things I would never recommend to my fertility patients. There is so much advice online about balancing hormones and improving fertility, but not everything trending on TikTok is supported by evidence or appropriate for your body. As a fertility naturopath, here are some things I’m cautious about: 1. Extreme fasting and calorie restriction. Inadequate energy intake can disrupt reproductive hormones, ovulation and menstrual cycles. Your body needs adequate nutrition to support fertility. 2. Detoxes and cleanses. Your liver and kidneys already have systems for eliminating waste. Restrictive detox programmes aren’t necessary for fertility optimisation, and some ingredients may be unsuitable when trying to conceive. 3. Cutting out entire food groups. Unless there’s a medical reason, unnecessarily restrictive diets can reduce nutrient intake. I’d much rather focus on improving dietary quality and diversity. 4. Assuming every woman has high cortisol. Stress absolutely matters, but symptoms alone don’t tell us your cortisol levels. We need to look at sleep, lifestyle, stressors and the bigger clinical picture. 5. Using seed cycling to fix hormonal imbalances. There’s limited clinical evidence that seed cycling regulates reproductive hormones or improves fertility. Enjoy the seeds for their nutritional benefits, but don’t use them as a substitute for investigating irregular cycles or ovulation problems. The biggest takeaway? Fertility treatment should never be one size fits all. At Nourishing Apothecary, we investigate what’s happening with your hormones, menstrual cycle, ovulation and overall health before developing an individualised treatment plan. I’m Mel, Senior Fertility & Endometriosis Naturopath at Nourishing Apothecary. Book a free discovery call to discuss your fertility concerns. We offer consultations Australia-wide via Zoom. www.nourishingapothecary.com #FertilityTips #TryingToConceive #HormoneHealth #FertilityNaturopath #PreconceptionHealth
