@congo.sounds.radio: #creatorsearchinsights #fytシ In the golden era of Congolese rumba, few musical forces commanded attention like Trio Madjesi, the sensational trio comprising Mario Matadidi Mabele, Djeskain (Loko Massengo) and Sinatra (Saak Saakul). But an important distinction often gets overlooked: Trio Madjesi was the vocal trio, while Orchestre Sosoliso was the band that backed them. Together, they created a musical phenomenon that blended Congolese rumba with funk and soul, captivating audiences in the 1970s. Behind the three celebrated singers was a talented group of instrumentalists. The orchestra's lineup included guitarists Dercy Mandiangou and Sita Mabele; rhythm guitarists Makoso and Goby; bassist Mok; and saxophonists Mbole Tambwé, Félix Soki Mikanda, popularly known as Somida, and Louison Akuda. The trumpet section included Angevélino, with Nzinga and Augustin joining later. However, the group's success was interrupted by controversy. Historical accounts link its suspension by UMUZA, the Union of Zairian Musicians, to allegations involving the exchange of foreign currency earned during a tour of the Central African Republic. At the time, UMUZA was headed by Franco Luambo Makiadi, the legendary leader of TPOK Jazz. The suspension reportedly lasted a year, disrupting the orchestra's activities and international ambitions. One of the biggest setbacks was the cancellation of a planned performance at the legendary Olympia concert hall in Paris, scheduled for 12 December 1976. Some accounts have raised questions about professional rivalry in the fiercely competitive Congolese music industry. However, the suggestion that Franco deliberately targeted Sosoliso out of jealousy remains unproven. By 1978, Trio Madjesi had broken up, bringing an extraordinary chapter in Congolese musical history to a close. 🎶 The story of Sosoliso is a reminder that behind every legendary vocal group stands a band of musicians whose instrumental brilliance helps create the magic. 💬 Was the suspension simply a matter of enforcing the rules, or did the fierce competition among Congolese orchestras also play a part? Let's discuss! 📻 Congo Sounds Radio — Rumba Without Borders! #CongoSoundsRadio #OrchestreSosoliso #TrioMadjesi
