I'm 68, and last spring I actually read my Diamond Resorts timeshare contract for the first time. Every page. One word kept coming up: perpetuity. I had to look it up to be sure, and yes, it means what you think. That timeshare was set up to keep going after I'm gone and land on my kids. When we bought it at that presentation, the salesman talked about points and flexibility and making memories. He never said perpetuity once. Over the years the points bought less and the fees bought more, and when I called Diamond, which is Hilton Grand Vacations now, I got the same polite runaround every time. I told my daughter I didn't want her inheriting this. She found Stonegate and sat with me on the first call. They didn't make me feel stupid for signing. If your timeshare paperwork says perpetuity, please don't just put it back in the drawer. Look at the next page. That was the first step that got me out.
