@yantowong: I was unemployed for 18 months. I had tried everything I possibly could. Sending out countless resumes. Lowering salary expectation. Visited recruiter's office uninvited. None of it landed me a job. Breaking into a new industry proved much harder than I ever imagined. I quickly learned a harsh truth: relevant skills are non-negotiable. So I reached a point where I was ready to work for free. Not because I wanted to work for nothing... ... but because I desperately needed practical, on-the-job experience. I was willing to make short-term sacrifices for a long-term goal. I'm curious. Would you work for little or no pay to pivot into a new industry? If my journey resonates with you, feel free to follow along.

Key takeaway to be resilient in any environment. (1) open to contract roles (2) AI upskilling (3) pivot to new industry? Know who are your competitors first. Decide later.

I have also been through bad times and I lost all confidence. I even work as a general worker with Bangladesh workers for a month before I pick myself up again. It's ok to start from low again, don't give up.

Work in a restaurant. They will definitely hire. Just accept the wag and work yourself upwards. No such thing as no job in Singapore if one is willing to be humble.

The key is to never stop learning and keep upskilling. I left public service at age 46. I hv been working with various govt agencies to broaden my knowledge. I attended counseling and AI courses to keep myself up-to-date. After each contract ends, I was able to get another contract assignment in less than a month. Hope you found a job soon too!

The reality is cruel. This leave us in a state of near despair= much like casting a stone into the vast ocean.

Yes. Sometime the reality is quite practical. And need to upskill. So at 48 I took up learning at NYP to get another diploma. And work some part time work while full time and work hard and keep up skill. And finally landed secure job after quite a period of time later. Stay relevant to the world and upskill and just do what it take to go ahead. All of us can do that and keep believing there is a way

If you go round malls and shops you will find many job vacancies. Though may not fit you but a good stop-gap to earn an income and learn different experience. Meanwhile search for job better. It’s impossible to say “no job”. Is your expectation…
