@fielddojo.app: Stair numbers every carpenter should memorize: 7¾ in max riser, 10 in min tread, risers within ⅜ in of each other, 6 ft 8 in of headroom, 36 in wide (IRC R311.7, residential). 9 ft of rise has three layouts worth cutting; 15 risers at 7.2 in is the comfortable one. And drop the stringer by one tread thickness, or the first step comes out 8.2 in and fails twice. Save this for the field. 14 or 15 risers for 9 ft? FieldDojo lays out stairs, rafters, concrete and 54 more on iPhone and Android. #carpenter #stairs #framing #carpentry #skilledtrades

FieldDojo :
Answer: both pass. 14 risers = 7.71 in (barely legal), 15 = 7.2 in (way easier on the knees).

7/11 is ideal, besides being easy to remember. Oold people (like me now) have trouble with higher risers, I'm going downstairs with shorter treads can lead to falls. I modified drawings more than once to get stairs to fit.

Just a heads up. Them numbers are all after finish’s. You will need to add for that.

Always figure cutting your staircase to framing

basic rule is 7-8-9.
risers between 7 and 8, run cut at no less than 9(for a 10" tread).
we frame to 6'-10" in rough so finish is never less than 6'-8".
but do what makes you happy.
