@theuntoldtruthnews: Apparently, asking voters to support your party now comes with an apocalypse forecast. Trump invoked burning buildings and unrest in France to suggest what America could face under Democrats. That is an extraordinary way to campaign for congressional seats. People deserve an explanation of how their lives will improve. How will housing become more affordable? How will healthcare become easier to access? What will help families keep up with everyday expenses? Instead, we get a disaster movie in which the only acceptable ending is Republicans keeping power. A functioning democracy allows voters to replace the people representing them. Losing control of Congress is a possible election result, and every party should be prepared to accept it. A president should reassure Americans that their country can withstand political disagreement and changes in congressional leadership. Making the opposition sound like an approaching national catastrophe does the opposite. If your policies deserve another vote, explain why. Defend your record. Answer difficult questions. Americans should be able to cast a ballot without being told they are inviting their country’s destruction. We deserve leadership with something better to offer than fear.
