They also need to learn same rule i have a 17 year old autistic boy an understandable if someone hit back if u hit even if u have limited understanding you can not go round hurting people .. self defence isn’t one sided in any situation..

My son is 13 with autism he would never just hit someone if someone teasers him and push his buttons then yes he will hit someone yes the person might hit him back but after my son hits someone or if he been fighting as soon as it finishes he will cry cause he doesn’t like hurting people but i think everyone should be treated the same not just because he has autism i would never want my son to feel different it is a hard one but who ever my son hit they won’t hit him or tease him again

whilst I understand that you shouldn't, that 13 yr old is going to get older bigger and stronger, one day he will walk up to someone and hit them and can find himself on the other side of the prison wall. I don't agree autism is an excuse to allow hitting (and before anyone comes for me my child is autistic and ADHD) she can get angry but do not hit anyone because their reaction is just that, their reaction. and whilst she understands to a degree she will be classed as responsible. unless they are totally none verbal, have the capacity of a toddler then nope

I think he should be taught not to hit,, and there won’t be a problem,, but he can’t be hitting and not being corrected

If no parents where about then clearly the child is able to be on their own so then there’s no excuse

autism isn't an excuse. they still have to learn right from wrong, if able to. my son has autism and i drill into him so much that if someone hits him hit back, unfortunately he hasn't got the confidence to, but he knows if he hits first to expect something back 100%, its life. fast forward 10 years, they walk past someone in the street and give them a random crack, that person doesn't know they have autism, they are going to give them one straight back, the big wide world won't accept it. obviously there is people with autism who aren't able to learn this as everyone is different, autism is obviously a spectrum. but i would assume they'd have someone out with them if they are known to lash out & hit people if that's the case. x

I think it depends on the severity, my niece is severely autistic and hits out and hurts herself, if someone hit her because she’s having a meltdown and they have gone near her, I’d absolutely do my nut. If they are aware enough to communicate and understand, then yes possibly you can lol, but there’s a line. This is why I believe severely autistic diagnosis needs a different name. X

Depends how severe his autism is, if he's profound then it's a no, if he's very high functioning he'll know right from wrong so then yes

For me if someone hit me as an adult I’d 100% smack them back in self defence. I teach my children the same. The the other person stops it’s over. But I’d expect my children to hit back. Running home may result in the child been ran after pushed down they have to get home first. My daughter’s been in a situation where she’s been hit and ran, she’s was repeatedly pushed to the ground while trying to run and kicked since then she does karate and is taught to never run. Call and defend yourself. A parent can hear what’s going on in the background and the child is trying to protect themselves until help comes. 🥰🥰🥰

i think the autism is irrelevant if the child has enough understanding to be out alone then they should understand you have no right to put your hands on anyone and if you do, they may hit you back?

I have always taught my children if someone hits u hit them back what’s good for one is good for the other however I do believe a child with autism can still be taught right from wrong having autism isn’t an excuse to get away with everything they do

if he’s out on his own he’s not effected enough not to be street wise and know right from wrong I know what mine would do and I am a mum of a 12 yo boy with autism but you won’t find him 2 feet out of my sight but that’s just me 🤦🏼‍♀️

so is he out on his own if you need to go and find the parents? as he shouldn't be out if he is that profoundly autistic.

depends how old the kid is, if he's also 13 then ideally still no, but realistically 13yr old boys aren't a bad kid for reacting like that in the moment. At that age im a girl but got hit by other kids and they eventually grew out of it in high school. At that age its part of the culture, its a common threat and retaliation.

As an autism mum, if he’s out without his parents then they must trust him enough to know how to behave appropriately. If he’s lashed out then it’s perfectly natural for another child to hit back out if instinct. Neither are right and neither are wrong, but it’s perhaps a lesson he needs to learn.
