@beccanomics101: Our budget looks a lot different than it did three years ago 🥹 I’m still a HUGE advocate for manually tracking every single dollar you spend, it’s the number one money habit that helped us hit our goals. Especially when you’re still figuring out your money, paying off debt, or don’t know where all your money is going. But isn’t the whole point to NOT have to do that forever? 🥹
When I first came across your page I was actively paying off my house ( I began that journey this year) , since then I paid that off 2 months ago & am anticipating paying off my truck by end of this year. With that, planning on setting down going into 2027.

I’ve been using the budget spreadsheet for 2 years and it helps me track my spending and savings. The biggest shift was paying my mortgage in 2 payments each month!

I've always been good at budgeting but because of watching these videos over the years, I took 10 months to aggressively get 6 months of expenses in an emergency fund, set up a high yield savings account and created sinking funds within it. I got to a point where I said, "now what?" and found a financial advisor. Now it doesn't hurt when I have to pay car insurance every 6 months, fix something around the house or even buy gifts. So thank you. Because of your story and advice, I'm in a better spot financially.

I needed the part of appreciate the progress! Our goal was to pay off both our vehicles by the end of the year. The truck is paid off but I was calculating today and don't think we'll pay the Jeep off so I was pretty bummed. Then I took a moment and remembered we paid a truck off so that is a victory! And the Jeep will be paid off by January so close enough!

Biggest difference is the sinking funds you showed us how to use! It takes all the stress out of saving for expenses that come up every year. We use the money from our tax return for our sinking funds and its made all the difference in working towards our goals :)

I went from trying and feeling like I got nowhere, to having bought my first starter home. I’ve been so motivated seeing you reach your ‘impossible’ goals. To keep going even if it feels impossible and that everything is better than nothing. My new goal is to see how far I can get in three years and how much that can change my life.

Tracking every dollar is great training wheels. Once the patterns are clear, a lot of people switch to checking the big categories and upcoming bills instead. What does your check-in look like these days?

Manual tracking is underrated — writing down every dollar for even one month shows you the leaks an app summary smooths over. How long did it take before tracking stopped feeling like work and just became the routine?

We’re working through our debt with a solid plan. We use an annual/monthly spreadsheet, then I also created monthly “checklists” so I can make sure I’m at least meeting the monthly goals in a more visual way.

So, funny story. I was a lot better off when I first found you years ago. I am much more in debt. I realize that it is alot of terrible financial decisions. But I am starting again. Budgeting every penny. 😅😬
