Yes, but every society that has ever injected elements of capitalism into their increased the rate in which they develop. Because with capitalism there is incentive to innovate. You even said someone gets ambitious. Ambition meaning the desire for more. Which creates one of two ways to innovate invent a new thing or create more efficient ways to take new things from and land from someone else.
