my last baby was a nurse catch. Only 1 post room was available and two mommas pushing...Dr made a joke and left the room, i told the nurse to catch. i was not goingto be stuck on L&D all night😂

no just l&d, im a medsurg rn and I chew out new residents constantly. listen newborn doctor i am the eldest daughter, granddaughter, niece and cousin my mouth had been going off since day 1, I walk around like Neagan from the walking dead. if you leave my patient 50 feet in the air one more time I will make you pay. I literally had new residents watch my patient alide out of a chair I yelled what the white coats make you too good to stop a fall move out of my way! I hoisted that man by myself and stared them down on my way out.

I never was able to get pregnant but I heard many stories like this and I always swore if I did get pregnant I’d want a nurse midwife to attend my birth.

I’m very brand new to L&D (ER beforehand and everyone seems to forget) just hit six months here but I just had something like that happen two nights ago. My sweet pt was an IOL for preE and had done a full miso course, hadn’t been checked since 1400 the day before. Since she’d popped her foley bulb out, broken her water on her own, gotten an epidural, and was 3-4 in 10 saying she felt a lot of pressure in her bottom. The provider refused to check her for 12+ hrs and desperately wanted me to start pitocin (something this pt didn’t really want me to really start), even had the audacity to say that she was very early in her labor and the pt actually needed to poop. I said I didn’t feel comfortable starting pitocin yet because of everything above until I knew if the pt had actually made progress on her own. I got YELLED at, at the nurses station in front of all my coworkers about how it was “great that you’re curious what her dilation is but midwives don’t just hand out cervical checks like doctors” and that I was impeding this sick woman’s induction. Welp. Not even an hour later baby had earlies, she FINALLY checked her, and the pt was fully and +1. Baby was born after not even an hour of pushing. Best revenge.

Like do they not care that the patient actually sees exactly what is happening? As the mother I would have been so upset and lodged a complaint with the office and the hospital. Like how dare he?
