I’m in Tennessee and I talk to random people on phones for my work. So many people have moved to this state and are baffled by the lack of safety net. I’m always surprised when they are surprised. Like what did you think small government meant?

Illinois native here. I will never, ever move to a red state. I won’t even visit or spend money in red states when I can help it.

We in blue states and cities absorb everyone without complaining and insulting them.

For real though I moved from CA to ID on contract work and I hate it here, I’m hopefully moving back to the west coast in the next year or so. Like no one wants to live in the Midwest unless they’re some rich bougie types that can buy a McMansion and 10 acres of land.

I am a "slight" exception to the rule. I, a socialist, relocated from Seattle to a Red county still in WA but eastern WA. Westside WAs are sometimes moving east in state because it's slightly cheaper, I still get the advantages of WA laws, and I need sunshine to stop the depression and mold allergies.

I've told a lot of people that when you live in a swing state it's twice as likely that people from Red States will move over to a swing state to keep it red and I get called crazy all the time

Yep, I see this a lot with New Hampshire. They’ll complain that people from Massachusetts are destroying the environment in NH and overdeveloping the shoreline of lakes for their summer homes, but if you tell them that they should vote for more stringent environmental regulations then they’ll talk about how climate change is a hoax and how big government can’t tell them what to do with their property.

What’s wild is that people moved to TN thinking it wasn’t going to already be full of gay and trans locals. Like they were “escaping.” Meanwhile most transplants I know from more “progressive” states hadn’t met any trans people before moving here.

For real, was talking to a transplant yesterday and she seemed mostly apolitical, but then the topic of health came up and she became incandescent about fluoridated water.
