I loved Gormans development. I feel like the company handpicked an inexperienced officer because they figured he would go along with their priorities. But once Gorman realized how desperate the situation was and followed Hicks and Ripley’s lead, he was just another “grunt” and I’m here for it 💯

He WAS a joke the whole movie. He was the disrespected, book-learned, no-experience officer who had to tell people with 10x his experience what to do. It's a whole-ass military trope for a reason. He wouldn't HAVE a redemption arc otherwise. his ending would have shown that he wasn't the 2D charicature he first seemed. -cont-

In the novelistion Gorman gets stung when the Xenos attack the APC as the tails have a paralysis venom in them if I remeber correctly.

The reason Burke turns is because he thinks he can control that situation. He knows Bishop is getting the drop ship they're only going to be there for another hour or so. So lets get Ripley and Newt face hugged. Up until the first encounter, he has zero idea how violent these things are, "supposedly" but when he's backing Ripley to get the marines out, he's just looking to save his own butt.

Do you think Bishop could be seen as a redemption arc compared to Ash from Alien? Ripley is obviously very distrusting of synthetics after what she went through on the Nostromo, and for a minute at the end it looked like Bishop screwed her over there too but ultimately came in clutch. Even after the queen stowed aboard the drop ship.
