@thelastconfessionunseen: There’s an entire language spoken by Southern women that nobody ever officially teaches you. You simply grow up hearing it. “Well, look at you” can be a compliment, a warning, or the beginning of a very interesting conversation. “That’s nice” might mean genuine approval. It might also mean the conversation is officially over. And “I’ll pray for you” can carry considerably more emotional complexity than those four words would suggest. But my personal favorite is the ability to communicate complete disbelief without saying anything at all. Just a slow blink. A slight tilt of the head. Maybe a sip of sweet tea. And suddenly, everybody in the room understands exactly what was meant. It’s an art form, really.
