@thisweeksmovie: Laika doesn’t do THIS, and I think it’s a big indication they’re making movies the right way 🤔 - #laikastudios #laika #stopmotionanimation #wildwood #movietok

I mean there’s a really obvious reason why they don’t do focus groups. Wildwood took 16 years to make. Every frame was meticulously crafted. They can’t just reshoot parts of the movie. The time and money that would take would be astronomical

The other reason they're different from every other movie publisher is that they continuously lose money and are the passion project of the son of the Nike family

I feel like also with how detailed and complex this animation is it wouldn’t make sense for them to rework a film like this, too much time, so it makes focus groups redundant

They reportedly don’t do test audiences for their movies

You’re right, like how they took will vintons company away and gave him no credit for the art form

yeah it's crazy how when you just let artists make art, you end up with great art

I worked in a movie that had FIVE “test screenings”. We ended up with so many reshoots that we made the movie twice in the end.. it was like 200 shots that got reshoot so many times we did 500 haha out of which only 300 are in the final film

I study the psychology of creative decision making. Hindsight is 20/20 and it’s popular to dunk on execs. NO ONE can reliably predict what OTHER people will like. Focus groups and internal decisions are both tricky.

That movie was the best stop motion media I’ve ever seen. I can’t to be able to pause a scene and marvel at the craftsmanship

I noticed in the background of the movie: the rocks are incredibly accurate the the geology of portland. Growing up in the area is a large part of why i chose this career, and the rocks mean a lot to me. It is clear they went and studied these locations on site, to get the texture, columnar structures, and fracturing and weathering, and the way the dirt covers them exactly right. And its all like. Intentional. I was utterly overwhelmed by the art and spectacle of this movie.
