You don't have to choose between two things: Keeping their memory alive. And allowing your life to become something new. You can do both. 🤍 One of the quieter struggles in grief is wondering what you're allowed to change. Can you create new traditions? Can you rearrange the house? Can you fall in love again? Can you become someone different from the person you were when they were alive? Sometimes even wanting something new can bring up guilt, as though moving toward a different life means moving away from the person you lost. But connection doesn't have to depend on keeping everything the same. Here's something you might try: Think about one thing you want to carry forward from your relationship with them. Maybe it's their humor, their kindness, a tradition you shared, or a value they lived by. Then ask yourself: How might I carry that connection with me while making room for something new? Perhaps you continue a favorite tradition but invite someone different to join you. Maybe you bring their sense of adventure into a place you've never visited. Or perhaps you tell their stories to people who never had the chance to meet them. Or maybe, for now, you simply acknowledge that your life is changing and that you're not sure how you feel about it. That's okay, too. Continuing your life doesn't require ending your connection, and honoring someone doesn't require putting your own becoming on hold. You get to discover what carrying their love forward looks like for you. What's one quality, tradition, or memory of your person that you want to carry into the next chapter of your life? 🤍 Grieve fully. Live fully. 🤍 If you're navigating the guilt, uncertainty, or identity changes that can come with life after loss, these are things we can explore in grief coaching.
