Alienating parents will tell the child everything. In high-conflict parenting situations, children can sometimes become caught in the middle of adult conflict. An alienating parent may share adult information, accusations, relationship breakdown details or their version of events with the child, sometimes creating what is described as emotional triangulation. The problem is that children should not feel responsible for understanding, fixing or taking sides in adult issues. If you believe your child is being exposed to adult conflict, one of the most important things you can do is try to take the pressure away from them. Remind your child that these are adult matters. They do not need to carry the responsibility for what is happening between their parents. They are allowed to love both parents. They do not have to choose sides. Loving one parent does not mean they are betraying the other. Try to keep your communication with your child age-appropriate and focused on reassurance rather than responding to every allegation or piece of information they may have been told. In high-conflict family court situations, it can be incredibly difficult to stay calm when you feel your child is being exposed to things they shouldn't have to deal with. But keeping your child out of the adult conflict, where possible, can help reduce the emotional pressure they are experiencing. This is general information and my perspective as a McKenzie friend, not legal advice. #familylaw #familycourt #law #alienatingparenting #emotionaltriangulation
