An estimated 70,000 ai starts were created worldwide in the last 2 year employing 350,000 people.

Let's be hyper generous and assume there's 10 billion humans on earth. The amount of money sunk into AI per potential consumer is in the thousands. I will never willingly spend a thousand dollars on AI. It's a bubble.

I work in software development, which is perhaps the most hyped, practical application for LLMs. Everyone’s delivering code faster and sacrificing process to do it. So lots of bad ideas that don’t make money, more bugs, and lots of overwork from unrealized productivity gains (and related layoffs) beyond the relatively modest gains actually delivered by AI.

Man it’s almost like it doesn’t really add value after cost and all the gains are speculative huh 🧐

I work in machine learning for insurance and it's honestly pretty AI-resilient because you can't expose any data at all to an LLM. everything has to be a dedicated model that we build in a secure environment. Any time some asks "can you use an LLM for this" I can be like "nope that's illegal" and it's so nice

The internet changed the world. It didn’t save every company that put “.com” in its name. Plenty went bankrupt.

There's become such a wide stratification in people and their understanding/realization of AI. I'd say less than 10% understanding the significance and gravity of AI. It's changing the world on a scale not unlike the internet, and probably just as unknowingly/misunderstood. People didn't get back then and most people don't seem to be getting it now.

I was with her until she implied that nobody wanted old Nvidia gpus. maybe that was true two years ago but it's not true today

Processing massive amounts of insurance claims quickly seems like one of the things that an LLM would actually be pretty good at right now, tbf

Virtually everyone is using AI on a daily basis now. I think it's fair to say most people in the general public have seen the benifits by now and those benifits will continue to grow.
