@laurafayeten: “Scientists in the ’70s predicted an ice age!” 🥶❄️ Except not quite. Some scientists explored the possibility of global cooling. That’s not the same as predicting an ice age. The scientific literature included competing ideas, and researchers were studying what could happen under different conditions. Science isn’t a collection of prophecies. It’s a process of testing ideas against evidence, weighing possibilities, and updating our understanding as we learn more. Climate deniers love to grab one possibility from decades ago and pretend it was the consensus. It wasn’t. And here’s the part that matters: scientists have understood the warming effect of increasing atmospheric CO₂ for well over a century. The evidence for human-caused global warming has only grown stronger. A scientific possibility is not a prediction. A prediction is not a consensus. And cherry-picking old headlines is not climate science. 🌎🔬 #ClimateScience #ScienceCommunication #ClimateChange #CriticalThinking #FollowTheScience. @deadhead815
Why understands the difference between prediction and possibility????

Technically we were at the very beginning of a natural cycle of an ice age (that would fully arrive in 10k+ years).
But we now know for certain that human-caused warming has distrupted that, and now we are facing runaway climate change and rising sea levels.

Actually in the 60 when I was a teenager they were saying that our earth is going into a cooling cycle because of orbital Dynamics. This is very true, but we are not getting cooler because of our affect on the atmosphere. It's a 20,000 year cycle and just getting started, but in the meantime we are burning everything we can find.
