@japdmedia26: Caracas, Venezuela 🇻🇪 — Opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado has returned to Venezuela after nearly 10 months abroad, as questions grow about the country's political future and the role of the United States. Machado announced her return on social media, writing, “I am here. With you.” Her return marks her first public appearance in Venezuela since she left the country in late 2025 to receive the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize in Norway. According to The Associated Press, Machado appeared at a church in Lara state, western Venezuela, where supporters welcomed her. Opposition figure Edmundo González Urrutia also confirmed her arrival, writing: “Today is a very important day for Venezuelans. Our sovereign voice returns with her to lead and guide this process!” Venezuela has been led by interim President Delcy Rodríguez since former President Nicolás Maduro was removed from power by U.S. forces in January 2026. Rodríguez, a longtime Maduro ally, has remained in office beyond the initially authorized interim period. A date for a new presidential election has not been announced. Machado and her allies have called for free and fair elections. However, the Trump administration has emphasized economic stabilization and rebuilding state institutions before holding a new vote. Her return also raises questions about Washington's relationship with Venezuela's opposition. Although Machado has sought U.S. support, President Donald Trump has backed Rodríguez as the country’s interim leader. Machado's team says she intends to work toward securing a date for free and fair elections and plans to meet political prisoners' families, democratic opposition leaders and other groups. Her return brings a prominent opposition figure back into the country's political debate at a time when the future of Venezuela's leadership and election process remains uncertain.
