@the.raising.nest: Why do we talk to babies in a high pitched voice even when they clearly don't understand us yet? Turns out they understand way more than we give them credit for. That sing-songy "helloooo" with the stretched out vowels isn't an accident, it shows up in basically every culture because babies actually respond to it. They're not just hearing noise, they're decoding language and reading your emotions long before they can say a single word back. This is your reminder to just talk to your baby. Narrate the laundry, the grocery list, whatever. It all counts. And if their shows feel repetitive and kind of boring to you as an adult, that's by design. Repetition and slow pacing is how little brains actually learn. You already know your ABCs, they don't yet, so of course it feels different for you than it does for them. Give it grace, it's working even when it doesn't look like it. #parentingtips #newbornsleep #toddlerlife #speechdevelopment #MomsofTikTok

While I will admit that baby talking like that is good, you have to make sure that you aren't mispronouncing words anyway. For example, don't make it sound like you have a lisp while you're talking, because it can actually make your baby have a speech impediment. Speak to them in your normal voice, while also keeping it higher pitched and elongating vowels and stuff

idk a lot ab child psychology but I always assumed it was because they couldn't understand language, they understand difference in tone so that's why its important to have a variety of tone to a baby

I can confirm- I remember one ONE thing when I was a baby, getting my first shots in my legs. I remember blurred colors and the sound of me crying- I seen my mom but I never could see her face through the tear. I could hear her through, I knew what she was saying but I didn’t KNOW but I heard her. Call me crazy, say it’s cap, but ik what the hell i remembered

Princess 🎀 :
People that have dementia also respond positively to “baby talk” or a high pitched voice. They almost always calm down and become more relaxed even if they were agitated or even combative before
