Also can we PLEASE talk about how often Pnes is a misdiagnosis? 😇 - someone who’s now diagnosed with epilepsy but was diagnosed with pnes first

i’m epileptic and have PNES, and it’s weird watching the debate on if they are real or not lol. they feel different than my epileptic seizures but they still suck

I had a pnes seizure twice in the hospital and the doctor told me and I quote “so you got bored and faked a seizure?” Then he started imitating shaking…..

unfortunately more times then not there will be little to none of testing done and most pnes cases will be misdiagnosed. i myself was diagnosed with fnd and i have pnes. i did not have any testing done while i was in the hospital when i had my first episode. that was december of 2025, i have an EEG scheduled for november 5th. it took an ER visit after having a seizure on a field trip to get that appointment. i am beyond disappointed in the healthcare system.

As someone that was treated horribly when they thought it was pnes but I actually had focal seizures that would turn grand mal it was ridiculous I think they deserve help too. Still dangerous mentally and physically

I hate that my neurologist gave me the term “pseudo seizures.” It sounds like it’s fake. It isn’t. My eyes start to blink a lot, I either go stiff and can’t move or I do involuntary movements, my head will move. I can still hear everything, I just can’t respond or move on my own or speak. Sometimes ice or an ice pack will sort help snap me out of it like on the back of my neck on a certain spot way up high but sometimes I can’t easily come out it. I have mild ones where I stare off in one spot too long too. Even when I don’t go into a full NES, certain things like showers will render me useless. I’ll struggle to move as well and I won’t be able to talk but sometimes only a few words or broken sentences though. My brain feels like mush and I’m afraid I seem childish but not in a regression sense but in that I can’t function as well & bc of how my speaking sounds in the broken sentences & speech. I don’t even keep the shower on that hot anymore. Last phone call to make an appointment I made gave me one too afterwards. Everything seemed fine. I wasn’t quite as nervous as I used to be. I wasn’t thinking anything negative about it. It just happened. Anyways, that’s mostly my experience. Thank you for supporting those of us with PNES/NES too. 🫶

I developed PNES after my 13th concussion. Migraines and pain are my biggest trigger… so the whole therapy thing feels like a joke to me.

oh my gosh THANK YOU. this is so nice to hear. i have pnes and people think we are faking it bc our brain scans come out clean. i hate that people gate keep seizures for some reason. seizures are awful, and i can’t even imagine how hard it must be to have epilepsy too.
