@the.yapping.hashira: Honestly, these are discussions that need to be had and maybe we can move forward. #africantiktok #fba #blackamericans #caribbeantiktok #blackcommunity
They do not want us to identify as American because American is everything they wanna be and to see someone look like you and have what they don’t have is pure jealousy… so if you can make me denounce where I’m from and who I am, you can feel better about yourself… that’s why they do that

We've only made this argument for years and years. if you can respect the Caribbeans as their own ppl its no difference in America we're just not the majority.

I’ve never even seen people in these conversations acknowledge South American black folks in these conversations…. Or Black Nova Scotians, if we’re being for real. Lol it’s like Black Americans = African, Caribbeans = their own ethnic groups, Black Central and South Americans and Black Nova Scotians = don’t exist. Lmao

When they do that, all I hear is “how dare you say you’re American when every other black nation is economically devastated. You CANT be American because you’re black. You can ONLY be from a devastated country or island” 😂😂😂😂

this is true but I think it's because a lot of us Africans don't think Americans have a culture which is wrong yes I know but a lot of us don't view culture how they do, but we view it the was Haitian and other Caribbean people do, I also think it's to make them mad cuz they keep on saying they native

that's the whole point of us discussing our differences ffeence as a ethnic group based on lineage yet y'all call us divisive why is it that Haitians and Jamaicans and every other black person outside of Africa gets to eh their own people but us black Americans ? Mind you we all came to America's at the same damn time 🤔 so why they only cleave to us

Noooo, I think it has more to do with whether you’re the majority or minority population in the country you come from. Take Haitians, for example. The vast majority of Haiti’s population descends from Africans who were brought there through the transatlantic slave trade. A lot of their ancestors may have come from the same ethnic groups or regions in Africa, which could have helped preserve certain cultural traditions. Since Haiti’s population was predominantly African-descended, African culture was able to remain a much bigger part of the country’s identity rather than being completely overshadowed by another dominant population. It’s not like there was a large white or other non-African population in Haiti that became the cultural majority and replaced those traditions.
