@nourishingapothecary: Adenomyosis isn’t just “endometriosis inside the uterus”. It gets described that way all the time, but they are two different conditions. You can have one, the other, or both. With endometriosis, tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus. With adenomyosis, endometrial glands and tissue are found within the muscular wall of the uterus, called the myometrium. And that difference matters. Adenomyosis can be associated with inflammation and thickening of that muscle. The uterus can become enlarged, bulky and tender, which helps explain that heavy, dragging feeling and pelvic pressure. Then there are the periods. Heavy bleeding, flooding, clots and pain that seems to be getting worse. Some women also experience pain with sex. These symptoms deserve attention, especially when they’re affecting how you live your life each month. Adenomyosis can also be relevant when we’re looking at fertility. But having it does not automatically mean you can’t conceive or carry a healthy pregnancy. Mel shares her own experience here. She has adenomyosis and has had two healthy babies. Everyone’s situation is different, but a diagnosis doesn’t tell us your whole fertility story. This is why understanding which condition you have, and whether both are present, is so important. If you’d like support, Mel is our Senior Fertility Naturopath with a focus on endometriosis and adenomyosis. She works alongside your medical care to build a plan around you. Start with a free discovery call, have a chat and go from there. Our clinic is in Liverpool, Sydney, and we see people Australia wide via Zoom. www.nourishingapothecary.com #Adenomyosis #Endometriosis #HeavyPeriods #PeriodPain #NourishingApothecary

Miss Wolfie :
As a teen I complained so much to my GP about pelvic pain that he “diagnosed” me with bipolar disorder and put me on Lamotrigine. 10 years later I had a dating ultrasound when I was pregnant and after a few further tests I was told I have adenomyosis, endometriosis and PCOS. I wish I could remember the name of that doctor to hunt him down [Tears of joy]

I have both and when I’ve tried to explain it to family and friend I give them an example of, look at your finger, you know there’s a bone inside there but you can’t see it. Adenomyosis is like that, it’s inisde the uterus muscle. Being female really sucks sometimes 😞

I’ve just spent 5 days in hospital for pain relief, my 8th time admitted in 12 months. I can’t get any help. I’m at my wits end.

I wish women were more informed about the complications after giving birth. I’m in absolute hell 3 weeks a month because of adenomyosis. Everything hurts, everything feels inflamed and the fatigue is actually the worst part when you have a child to look after and have to work full time.

No one knew what it was for me 17 yrs ago apart from my amazing specialist. It was like being in labour when I had my period. It’s why I had a hysterectomy. Best thing that’s ever happened to me but it’s not endo
