The drain line needs to come through the top of the cabinet so it doesn’t siphon the waste back into the dishwasher

Also if you ever need to do any sort of plumbing like this again you can heat up the female plastic part with a hair dryer or heat gun (which I know you have from the door paint peeling project!) and it’ll make it big enough to go over the male end :)

I installed a new kitchen sink a couple weeks ago. Two trips to Lowe’s, one trip to Louis Doe’s and 24 hours of pure hell later….we have a beautiful new sink. I hate plumbing.

You can glue that oops circle cut out back in and put some caulk or spackle around it and it will barely be noticeable. Don’t ask me how I know 😝

Quick side if you turn it on and it sounds empty, the pump is probably dry. You can prime it by filling a bowl of water and dumping it into the basin (bottom) of the dishwasher :) pumps aren’t supposed to run dry or they’ll overheat.
