@vinnieandizzie: Closing down Oxford Street has officially started tonight for all buses and it seems this guy forgot 😭🚍 Phase 1 has commenced and it is going to take some getting used to… So what will the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street look like? 🤔 • Phase 1 (The Transition Phase): Starting October 26, 2026, a nearly 1km stretch of the street (between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street, including Oxford Circus) will immediately go completely car, bus, taxi, and bicycle-free. This initial trial stage acts as a "test and review" period running through spring 2027, introducing rapid, temporary installations like potted young trees, planters, security bollards, temporary public squares, and street seating to open up pedestrian space ahead of the Christmas shopping period. • Phase 2 (The Permanent & Extended Phase): Following the initial trial review in mid-2027, work will begin to transform the pedestrianisation into a permanent layout. The Oxford Street Development Corporation (OSDC) will use the trial data to build long-term infrastructure, including over 50 permanently planted trees, 100+ permanent public seats, and potentially a seasonal water feature; while exploring future consultations to expand the traffic-free zone across the remaining eastern stretch toward Tottenham Court Road. Let me know what you think in the comments! 👇 #oxfordstreet #oxfordstreetpedestrianisation #londonnews #phase1 #london
