I wasn’t alive at that time but in high school and college I was in these queer artist, (what we would later call) neurodivergent communities and everyone was self-harming constantly and making attempts and had eating disorders and were full of so many emotions and wants and rage and dying hope— ya, of course I connected to it

Rent came out right after we lost my family friend Stan. We didn’t know he had AIDS, he stopped coming to see us when he was near the end cause he didn’t want to make me watch him die. I was 7 when he passed, I still think of him every day. Whenever I watch Rent it feels like a little hello from my dear friend. I miss you, Stan 🕊️

I had the honor of meeting Daphne this year! She was such a light in person and getting to thank her for being part of this legacy defining show was such a thrill. She’s incredible on stage as well! No matter what, she’ll always be Mimi💙!

Last night was my first time ever seeing the show, I was born about 10 years after opening night of rent, and even so, seeing queer representation on stage last night made me start sobbing. I can’t even begin to imagine how queer people back must’ve felt when it first opened
