@hannahanniex: I saw @Jules talking about the worst jobs for ADHD, and agree that anything that’s a desk job (or corporate in general) needs a warning label at the best of times, but are especially demanding, and at times destructive, for an ADHD brain. So here’s my list of jobs that work for ADHD brains. As someone who has severe unmedicated combined type ADHD and has worked in a bookshop, and built a business around their hobby (that is now their full time job) and who left corporate behind after severe burnout, I’m also now thinking about retraining as a therapist 😅😅😅 #adhdwomen #adhdawareness #burnoutrecovery

I used to be a chef and now I have my own dog walking business, always needed practical work, it works best for me. I would definitely say working with animals in anyway is so autistic and ADHD coded. They can bring you so much joy and help you regulate in a way I had never been able to at work before.

Add veterinary professional to the list. For adhd more likely vet nurse. They actually looked at the prevalence of neurodiversity in our industry and it’s so high. Each day is enough the same to know what you’re doing but also so varied because each case and each animal is different. There’s so many route to go and specialisation. It’s constant learning as you get struck off if you don’t continue to progress and undertake continued professional development. If you go into referral it’s almost no owner interaction too so all animals, all the time. (Do not recommend if you like money, although the industry is expensive, we do not get paid in line with that 😅)

The problem with being a therapist is that you have to let people come to their own conclusions and not sway them, which is SO hard. I qualified as a counsellor and found this so difficult. Bookshop is definitely a great one because you can remember books so well, give your opinion and bounce off other people

love these suggestions! a lot of people on social media are saying graphic design as an adhd friendly job and i think they don’t actually know what graphic design is. it’s not novelty and creativity all the time!! you have to make a project based on someone else’s request, “create” for like a day and then spend the next two week in front of a computer doing a repetitive and boring task ‘cause you have to actually make the project and mostly make the presentation and it’s killing meeee

This is so true about therapy but I would caution that it’s inherently a freelance role and managing that side of things can be extremely challenging for people with adhd. [Pink heart]

I find that being a graphic designer (brand designer specifically) also works very well. There is novelty in every project, you need to obsess over an unknown field in order to strategize correctly, it’s creative, you can work from your sofa, in the middle of the night, in an office, whatever suits you. Empathy and pattern recognition is also fundamental to better understand the client.
