The surviving file gives the stated purpose as: The objective of this research was to develop screening and bio-assay techniques for psychotomimetic (capable of producing a psychotic-like state) agents which do not involve human testing. The work was not classified. The surviving records run from January 28, 1955 through July 14, 1961. The researcher or contractor remains redacted. The listed location was University of Illinois, College of Medicine, Chicago. The CIA monitor information remains redacted. The CIA index lists 40 internal documents, 54 reported pages. The current mirror contains 54 pages. What I think deserves more attention is this: The project fed MKULTRA's drug pipeline: acquire a substance, measure how it changed perception or behavior, and judge whether the effect could be useful to intelligence officers.
