@forum.europaeum: Aleksandar Vučić’s governing coalition has suffered a major electoral defeat in Serbia’s parliamentary election on 25 October 2026, with the student-backed Student List projected to secure an outright majority in the National Assembly. The result signals a potential end to more than a decade of parliamentary dominance by Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). According to preliminary projections by Ipsos/CeSID, based on 56% of the processed sample, the Student List secured an estimated 52.0% of the vote, compared with 39.3% for Vučić’s “United Serbia” coalition. Other electoral lists collectively received 8.7%. The corresponding seat projections give the Student List 139 of the 250 parliamentary seats, compared with 104 for Vučić’s coalition. With 126 seats required for a majority, the student-backed movement appears positioned to form Serbia’s next government. Vučić acknowledged his coalition’s defeat on election night, marking a significant setback for a political establishment that has dominated Serbian politics since 2012. The election follows nearly two years of student-led demonstrations triggered by the November 2024 collapse of a railway station canopy in Novi Sad, which killed 16 people. The protests developed into a nationwide movement demanding accountability, institutional transparency and stronger measures against corruption. If confirmed, the outcome would represent a historic political transition and the end of the SNS-led government’s longstanding parliamentary dominance. However, Vučić would remain Serbia’s president, as the parliamentary election does not directly determine the presidency. The figures remain election-night projections rather than certified results. Final vote shares and parliamentary seat allocations are subject to confirmation by Serbia’s Republic Electoral Commission.
