My dad was a high school football coach for 45 years in central Illinois. When he died, the amount of men that came through to tell us how much he changed their lives was staggering. He was called a molder of men. Football was an avenue to teach them how to be a man of value in this world. He’s been dead almost 20 years and I still hear new stories about him. In my experience, no other sport reaches young men like this. We need coaches like this, like you. Thanks for being there for those kids.

I coach at Evergreen Park High School. My fourth year there and first with varsity. The kids who are seniors I taught as 6th graders during Covid. It hit me a few weeks ago that most teachers around the country, the world even, did not get to know their students that well that year because of all the circumstances. But I have been with these boys in some capacity (teaching them, seeing them in the middle school, coaching them on frosh/soph and now on varsity) for 7 years. We are in the playoffs and hopefully can make a run but it pains me to think those 7 years could be over at the drop of a hat.

My favorite memory as a mom of a freshman football player for Southwestern is getting videos of the bus ride home. Those boys just celebrating and singing together is a memory I know my son will remember long after his time on the field is done. We appreciate you Coach and how much you’ve poured into our boys. Looking forward to you coaching Ryan another 3 years. Go Birds!
