@gearshift_hq: Ever wondered why diesel engines don’t need spark plugs? ⚙️ Unlike gasoline engines, which use a spark to ignite the air-fuel mixture, diesel engines rely on compression ignition. As the piston compresses air inside the cylinder, the temperature rises dramatically. Diesel fuel is then injected into the hot, compressed air, causing it to ignite without a spark. This is one of the fundamental differences between gasoline and diesel engines, helping explain their efficiency and ability to produce strong torque under heavy loads. Diesel engines may still use glow plugs to assist with cold starts, but these don’t create the spark that initiates combustion. Did you know how diesel engines ignite fuel without spark plugs? not spark plugs, but glow plugs...

there is a diesel engine that does have spark plugs

Guardian :
Technically known as adiabatic compression. As the piston moves upwards, it rapidly compresses the air inside the cylinder, reducing its volume and increasing its pressure and temperature. This can heat the air to around 500–700°C. When diesel is injected into this extremely hot compressed air, it reaches the conditions needed for autoignition and combusts without requiring a spark plug. It’s the fundamental principle behind compression ignition diesel engines.

Can technically happen with gasoline as well but it's never good when it does

Diesels use glow plugs (I think that’s what it is called) and extreme pressure

Glow plugs are only used for warming the cylinder in cold environments not for combustion

Scientists- "we've made a new kind of fuel that won't light from sparks!"
Everyone- " How do you light it then?"
Scientist, slowly raising a hammer over a test piston filled with pure diesel - "Observe!"

No some diesels have spark plugs but they ignite in the intake to heat the air so it can combust
