Fright Night (1985) Cast: Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale, Amanda Bearse, Roddy McDowall, Stephen Geoffreys, Jonathan Stark, Dorothy Fielding, Art Evans, and Stewart Stern Director: Tom Holland Writer: Tom Holland Runtime: 1h 46m Plot: Charlie Brewster, a teenager believing that the newcomer in his neighborhood is a vampire. He turns to an actor in a television hosted horror movie show for help to deal with the undead. Rating: 🎃🎃🎃🎃 (4.5/5) Review: There’s just something about Fright Night that I absolutely love. It’s funny, creepy, charming, and somehow manages to feel like the perfect mix of a horror movie and a fun ’80s coming-of-age adventure. Chris Sarandon is fantastic as Jerry. He has that perfect balance of charm and menace where you can completely understand why Charlie’s neighbor doesn’t immediately seem suspicious. Roddy McDowall is also a total highlight as Peter Vincent. He’s hilarious, over-the-top, and somehow becomes one of the most lovable characters in the movie. What really makes this work for me is the atmosphere. The practical effects, makeup, neon-soaked ’80s aesthetic, and vampire imagery give the movie so much personality. It never takes itself too seriously, but the horror still feels surprisingly effective when it needs to. This is exactly the kind of horror movie I can throw on late at night and just have a great time with. It has vampires, humor, great characters, practical effects, and an undeniable ’80s charm. A damn near perfect vampire movie. Follow me on Letterboxd: garrettryan1958 #frightnight #supernatural #horror #movie #fyp @Sony @Sony Pictures @Letterboxd
