I can see how this would be enforced, you don't want a ticking time bomb going to war , what they should do is turn these trucks and other equipment over to National Guard Units and State DOT Fleets , just paint them

Its not just trucks its anything... lets say an infantry unit gets a apache helicopter part in a box main rotor head drive plate ... infantry private is clueless tags it bad turns into drmo as turn it credit ... box goes in crate and auctioned off with pt shirts a camo net and 15 ruck sacks or its just tossed into a scrap metal bin ... that part is just a ring with holes and gear inside but goes on an apache and probably 50k but dot scrapped like an axle from a chevy truck ...why i mentioned this ... i saw it happen at drmo at ft Campbell in the 90's i was a apache crewchief but its trash because went to wrong unit ....

We went through annual audits of our vehicles. We weren't even allowed to have a screw missing. The thing is, we couldn't order just 1 screw. We had to order a box of 100, but we also weren't allowed to keep ANY extra parts, so we had to replace the missing screw and throw the other 99 in the dumpster. 100% true. How's that for abuse of our tax dollars.

The construction company I worked for in the late 70s had welding machines that were army surplus. They were built in the late 50s and early 60s. They were bought by the company around 1970 for around $500 each. These were Hobart welders with four-cylinder Ford engines in them that had never struck an arc and had never had welding leads hooked to them. Back then a new one was about $2000. The company bought 20 or 30 of these and used them for 30 years.

The only time low hour/mile make it to auction is if they were training units that have been taken apart and put back together so many times they are trash when they are done.

Do not believe this at all. Used to go to the surplus auctions, never saw a low use vehicle..No condition information provided..Only clue was if the steering wheel was chained it was probably driven on the trailer . No chain, no running vehicle.
