Kissy is a low-energy, nine-year-old girl who came to ACCT Philly on October 11th as a surrender after nine years in her previous home. The person who brought her in reported that Kissy was fearful and anxious around unfamiliar people and would swat or bite when approached, though she was a good companion for her primary owner. She has continued to show these behaviors at the shelter, growling, hissing, and raising a paw when staff attempt to interact with her. Kissy has shown interest in her favorite pink Churu treats, though she is most comfortable with a hands-off approach and the freedom to choose when to engage. She needs a calm, patient home with experienced people who can respect her boundaries, let her set the pace, and give her plenty of time to settle in. Kissy is currently being treated for an upper respiratory infection and has stopped eating, putting her at risk of developing hepatic lipidosis. Due to her medical concerns, Kissy is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or experienced adopter who can provide continued medical care and support her recovery. She was lip licking and began to raise her paw as if to swat so I didn't want to push her further. Per staff 10/15: Couldn't give the rest of her meds, will try again later. Got overstimulated and started hissing and lifting her front paw. Per staff 10/14: Kissy was laying on her stomach when I approached, and gave me some low grumbles when I opened the kennel door and sat down. I put some tuna churu (the pink one) into a tray and offered it to her, and she immediately crawled forward to eat it, continuing to grumble while she ate. I used the behavior wand to touch her head, and she would stop and hiss, but still seemed more focused on eating. However, when I moved the wand down her back, to the area where her matted fur had been shaved, she would whip her head around and hiss and swat. Later, I took the same churu and mixed it into a wet food slurry, and while she did eat some of this, she did so with much less interest than she did when eating the straight churu. She stopped eating, held her ears back and continued to low growl at me, licking her lips. Per staff 10/11: Hissing, lunging, and swatting at cage door. Unable to be handled or examined safely. Starting gabapentin for FAS and comfort. Per owner surrender notes 10/11: Had for 9 years. Surrendering because she lashes at anyone who comes near her. Mostly litter trained. Low energy. Sleeps on couch or furniture. Likes mouse toys and enjoys playing independently. Scratches posts/cat trees, rope scratch mats, and furniture. She is anxious/stressed, fearful/nervous/shy, and is aggressive towards people. Bit when putting her in a cage to get spayed. Aggressive with strangers. Has not been around children, dogs, or other cats. She swats when approached. She was a good companion for the mother. Fostering is free!
