@thechristigreen: Gen X, if retirement is less than 10 years away and you’re wondering how you’re going to make it work, I understand. I spent 38 years in healthcare. I loved helping people, but I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life asking permission to go see my kids. And the thought of retiring and having to give up travel? That wasn’t the retirement I wanted. Here are 4 things I’d focus on now: 1️⃣ Learn how to bring in money beyond your paycheck. I wasn’t looking for another shift. I wanted something I could build while I was still working and continue doing when I retired. For me, that became affiliate and digital marketing. 2️⃣ Give yourself permission to learn something new. I started at 56 with zero followers and no marketing background. I had to learn how to create content, share an offer and follow up. I wasn’t good at it in the beginning. But I kept showing up and using what I learned. 3️⃣ Get specific about what you want your days to look like. For me, it was being able to get on a plane to Chicago, Los Angeles or France to see my children. Time with my husband. A Tuesday that belonged to me. What are you wanting more time for? 4️⃣ Stop beating yourself up over what you didn’t do sooner. I wish I’d learned some things earlier, too. But wishing wasn’t going to change anything. Starting did. My first commission was $2.80. That little commission showed me that someone could buy through my link. So I kept learning. On January 1, 2026, I retired from healthcare at 59. That’s my story. Yours will have its own timeline, and this takes effort. But being in your 50s or 60s doesn’t mean you’re finished learning or building something new.
