While I don’t agree with it, I think the thought is that the death penalty is the easy way out… serving a life sentence is more punishment… I don’t know tho that’s not my line of work

That’s not a law, it’s used as leverage in plea bargains to skip a lengthy trial and get a conviction. A person can plead guilty and still get 💀 penalty.

Along the same lines, if the prosecution is thinking of presenting a plea deal, that plea deal should be discussed with the living victims and/or their families and they should have to agree to it before they can present it to the defendant. If the victims dont agree to the consequences of the plea, there should be no plea deal.

that's not a law it's a plea bargain given to the defendant as a incentive to plead guilty in order to make sure that the prosecution gets a conviction in the case and the judge does not have to uphold it when passing sentence.
