This is a wonderful decision. We need to normalize retiring horses because it’s the right time, not just waiting for them to be injured. My horse retired at about the same age and lived to be 31. It was amazing to have all that time just to enjoy him.

RESPECT Sydney❤️❤️My mare hated showing and it broke my heart because she was a star. I stopped showing her and she stayed my pet bff trail horse, because I couldn’t bear selling her. And having her home with me and her loving life again was perfect and I continued on with another boy who loved the bright lights and made me a superstar❤️❤️❤️

People only see the wins, not the behind the scenes work that is required to get that perfect round. We retired my daughter’s first Eq horse and he’s so happy, barefoot, friend to all and enjoying his golden years. So many don’t get that chance and get thrown away once deemed “useless” - I pray that people actually understand that you should have a plan for a horse’s lifetime 🙏🏻 kudos to you and Jr.

I love when people retire them sound! I will say- if at all possible, please try to keep them in some level of work! I retired my heart horse 8 years ago because he just didn’t enjoy the work and frankly I didn’t enjoy riding him. Fast forward and he’s 24 and has lost so much muscle, his back has dropped and the lack of muscle/fitness has definitely affected him. A few days a week of trotting around would’ve changed this horses senior years. Just some advice from an industry big sister!
