a spot or two of dish soap will help with grease and oil stains as a pre-treatment but thats about it.

HE washers don't do well with suds. I have an non HE washer, sometimes I need a little dawn to break down grease as a pretreatment or with items that had a lot of oils (like our dog items because he had skin issues). I can't imagine the mess dawn would make in an HE washer.

If your washer has a reservoir for detergent and it will auto-dispense, is that ok to use or should you measure out the detergent for each wash?

my grandma always taught me to let it sit on things like grass or oil grease in my tub raise off the soap then wash it it works really well as well to make sure you can get the puke smell out of stuff when you cant wash it immediately
