I miss being able bodied and working. My QOL is low and I’m facing homelessness and deterioration to where I cannot even do basics. Like how is going to work 9-5 and getting resources while your body works and you can live worse 😅 they hate capitalism indeed.

its not like disability is an affordable lifestyle or anything. the government punishes you for getting sick. the money provided almost always leads to poverty.

The amount of times I’ve been told I’m “lucky” because I can’t work. Meanwhile I’m wasting away, unable to eat food, vomiting nonstop for 4-9 days at time, losing 10 lbs during that time, and every doctor tells me they can’t help me. And I’m unable to have more that 2k in my bank account unless I want my benefits seized. Oh and I can’t get married. But sure. I’m lucky.

they think all we do is party and have fun all day when in reality it’s mostly just killing time on our phone and crying because we can’t go outside and and do normal things ppl our age do

It’s kinda like when I was an ignored kid, I wanted to be sick or injured enough to go to the hospital and have everyone give me attention. Obviously as an adult, I can recognize where that daydream came from (the desire for affection) and I know that being hospitalized as a kid would actually suck really bad. They have an unmet need (rest) and they’re so desperate, they think that being disabled is a better situation, that’s how fucked up this situation is and how warped it made their minds.

I would trade places with an able-bodied person in a heartbeat. in my current situation, my life has for all intents and purposes, ended as a result of chronic illness. I'm bedridden with *extreme* amounts of pain. Extreme enough that I am operating at the fringes of science for management. They can have my life lmao

Agree. And it’s so odd to me because, as someone who has disabilities, I’m sometimes jealous or a tad envious of people who don’t have health conditions that impact their careers or ability to make money. I work, but I cannot HUSTLE. I cannot just work more to get ahead because it makes me ill. Like, literally……. I get sick and it throws me into an autoimmune flare up that kicks my a$$.

and many of us are stuck in bad situations because we can't get a diagnosis and or can't get approved for ssi or disability. And relying on this government is terrifying, it's not enough, they are barely scraping by and they know that with this administration they know they could lose everything and be left for 💀... we didn't choose these bodies, and in a split second anyone can become disabled- one diagnosis, one accident and your whole life is changed forever. every human deserves to be housed, fed, have clean water, medical care, education. and working a part time job should also be able to afford you a life- the system isn't just rigged against disabled and chronically ill people, but able bodied people too

💯 that's always what it is, they spew all this hate because deep down, they hate the system just as much as we do but that would mean ego death and they won't allow that

Too anguishly true! ...Like hello, we’re all being kìrked by the system/rǐchh, ~we’re~ not the problem, the toppers are! Like seriously, why waste time/energy/anger/VOTES on us ~ýour fellow victimsś~ instead use it on the actual ppl whomst are actively kìrking our rights: the “elitess”.

I loved working at the comic shop, but it was taking not only a physical toll, but a mental and emotional toll so high that I haven’t worked there for over 4 years and I still get nightmares about working there. The lack of communication and having multiple disabilities that affect my ability to communicate was a bad time. But I loved working with the comics, and the customers were great, most of the time. Until Covid, then I saw sides to people that I hadn’t before and that sucked. And I’ll say it every single time, there is a level of acceptable ableism in society and it’s not okay.

I blame TV tropes. Dr. HOUSE and Sheldon Cooper taught us that genius is always housed in a pathological personality, which is why people assume that Elon Musk must be a genius because he is such a dickhead. I think the envy of disabled people has a similar misattribution error, because the largest group of people who sit on their asses and collect unearned money while enjoying 'special' benefits are billionaires. I think people mistake the observable similarities as a prestige grab by disabled people.
