The Prophet ﷺ is reported to have said: “Whoever shames his brother for a sin will not die until he commits it himself.” (Jamiʿ at-Tirmidhi 2505) One of Shaytan’s most dangerous traps for someone striving to stay away from sin is arrogance. You start looking down on others because of their sins, forgetting that the only reason you’re able to stay away from those same sins is through Allah’s mercy. Never mistake Allah’s guidance for your own superiority. You can hate the sin without humiliating the sinner. Advise with sincerity, not arrogance. Because the person you look down on today may sincerely repent and become more beloved to Allah than you.
