@kiore.speaks: We deserve protection, accountability, and collective power without having to sacrifice our humanity in the process. Being feared and being respected aren’t necessarily the same thing, and I think it’s worth questioning the ideas about power we’ve inherited. #kiorespeaks #differentlenses #blackcommunity #communityhealing #blackpower

I agree! Also, he confused me when he said “be feared and respected” but then said “we don’t have to do nothing crazy”. There is no such thing as being feared and not doing anything crazy. THAT’S LITERALLY HOW YOU’RE FEARED, no?

That’s the reason we are in this mess to begin with. We have already tried, century after century to show them our humanity, to show them our love to show them that we are just the same and that we are worthy of respect and dignity as any other human. So my question to you is, aside from being just a little more comfortable than our ancestors, where has that gotten us? Where has showcasing our humanity, being peaceful and tolerant gotten us? Sure you can say that there have been things that have changed but have they truly changed for the better or are we just living in a more peaceful state of suffering? These are the questions that we need to ask and ultimately answer for ourselves and deep down I’m sure that you and every other black perosn that clings to this hole know instinctively: This cannot be changed. It cannot be understood and it cannot be redeemed. And even by some slight miracle, some slight chance, things turn around and white society all of a sudden decides to change and become ‘better’, you will still be confronted with your own reality and self. You can’t run away from the responsibility of the creation of your own destiny as a people and that’s what many black people don’t understand. Whether they change or not DOESNT MATTER. What matters is being able to look at all the shit they do, all the fucked up shit they are and say, and make sure that they damn hell cannot affect you anymore. Whether at the base social level up to the most systemic and complex stuff. We’ve already tried the humble approach, it’s time we stood up as a people and do anything in our power to make sure that this reality isn’t transferred to our descendants. Everything that has happened to us has been an INTERRUPTION. So focus on yourselves, on your own centre. If you don’t think you are the centre of your world then that’s a very very big issue. Black people must attain power and the means to defend that power and our own ideals and interests. If that means separation, fear, deterrence or what have you, we do it. Simple. The his has to end, if not by us then by our children. BY. ANY. MEANS. NECESSARY

To be feared is to be hated. We need systems that humanize us, but also we need to stop hating ourselves—the world believes our culture is about self-sabotage and selling out. To combat that we need to hold members of our community that do genuine harm accountable and not sweep shit under the rug. Coonery cannot be accepted.

Fear comes with being aware of punishment that’s how you gain respect nature it self teaches you that things don’t come without consequences we gotta stop being soft and letting everbody walk over us and fell included in everything the punishment is exclusion until our demands are meet

Completely agree, however 1. I cant really see people acknowledging our humanity anytime soon its been centuries and lots of people still dont see us as fully human 2. In the context of a white "supremacist" society thats kinda the way it goes. I would love for black people to be appreciated and lives and protected but like in a society like this, respect for a group is never about love and kumbaya; even white people who are on the pedestal their given by 5he entire globe only get that live and respect cuz they basically whipped it into everyone, not necessarily because people innately just live them.

I don’t agree because I think it’s a new fear currently we live in a society that fears black people and can weaponize that without consequences but I think if we show that mean more respect and we demand more than it isn’t a fear about control but about crossing

we need to evaluate the words respect and fear and ask ourselves how we actually treat people we respect and how we treat people we're afraid of. because I know that I am highly respected, but that does not prevent people from mistreating me. the things I would need to do in order to make these people leave me alone, would make them afraid of me, but would be a compromising of the very principles that I silently stand by that have earned people's respect. but we use those words interchangeably depending on our intent. I believe people are afraid of people who are consistent and fair, because to be that way is to have a mastery over one's emotions and that is rare and difficult. but I don't necessarily mean fear. I mean respect. people respect you for being clear even though they freak out about it emotionally and then treat you bad. and they claim to respect the people they are afraid of for being chaotic and unpredictable and unfair. even though in reality that chaos produces compliance and enormous resentment from the people around them. when you resent an authority figure it is distinct from any resentment that comes from secretly wishing you could be more like the nerdy kid in class who knows who they are and doesn't care what people think. (half baked thought)🐰

I think Black people being stereotyped as “violent” confrontational and “aggressive” is protecting a lot of Black people from very overt racism. It doesn’t mean they humanize us but it does mean some of them hesitate before acting out on a bias
